Summary
Vaggelis had been peeing too much since he was twenty-one years old. He never really paid it that much attention and got used to it. When he was twenty-seven years old, he had surgery on his nose and the Doctor advised him that he had a problem with his liver. The Doctor recommended he have it checked out and he went for a general examination.
Vaggelis was told your liver is OK, but you have an infection in your prostate. At this stage Vaggelis didn’t pay attention to this as he generally felt fine
After about a year his peeing became very annoying, it was affecting his appointments in work as he constantly felt he needed to urinate. It was difficult having regular and urgent urination when he was hosting property viewings. He also could not sleep properly at night and was waking every two to three hours to get up and pee.
He decided to visit a doctor again who did an examination and prescribed Glimbax tablets for a month. He took the pills but started having very strong pain in his prostate. It was hurting so much he could not even sit on his motorcycle. The doctor told him to be patient and complete the month of tablets.
Two weeks after completing the tablets he started to notice problems having erections. At this stage he went to another doctor who advised him prostatitis was not important or linked to erectile dysfunction. The doctor recommended he have a doppler examination to check the blood vessels in his penis. Vaggelis did this and was advised everything regarding the blood vessels were in order
At this stage the doctor told him he had psychological issues and recommended Vaggelis visit a psychologist. The doctor prescribed him Cialis to help with his psychological feelings.
At this point Vaggelis felt he had no hope to be treated.
“At this point I felt I had no hope to be treated”
The Cialis tablets caused huge prostate pains and Vaggelis knew it was not psychological problems so he visited another doctor. This new doctor said he had an infection in his prostate and advised he had a blood and sperm examination. When he did the examination, they found Chlamydia. The doctor prescribed the pills Vibramysin for one month. Vaggelis started to feel better and for once he did not have a burning feeling whilst urinating. However, when he stopped taking Vibramysin after one week the symptoms came back. He went back to the same doctor and was advised to take two more weeks of Vibramysin. This time the symptoms did not disappear.
He went to his doctor a third time and let him know that his symptoms were back. The doctor did an ultrasound and advised Vaggelis did not have an infection anymore. At this point the doctor recommended treatment with piezo waves on the prostate and penis and said everything would be fine and recover.
Each cycle of piezo waves was six sessions. In total Vaggelis did three cycles, meaning eighteen treatments in total. The doctor also recommended some herbs and supplements including Epimedium Macun.
Sometimes whilst on the herbs Vaggelis would notice whilst reading that white pages were turning blue; he also had a humming sensation in his ears.
He was very disappointed the piezo waves and herbs did not work after a treatment period of over nine months. The doctor said to wait another six months for results and to be patient.
At this stage Vaggelis felt very bad from a mental perspective and really felt nobody could cure him. He also split up with his girlfriend at this point as she was feeling that his erectile dysfunction was maybe a sign he was not attracted to her anymore.
Vaggelis then stopped visiting doctors for a long time and started doing research on other solutions. He found some mushrooms called Ganoderma which assisted with the symptoms but did not cure the problem.
Vaggelis found Dr. Pavlos Georgiadis on the internet in 2020 and visited him after the first lockdown in May 2020.
Treatment
The doctor examined Vaggelis very carefully via transrectal examination and an ultrasound of the testicles, bladder, kidneys and abdomen.
The doctor advised Vaggelis had a big chronic prostatitis problem with lots of inflammation shown on the transrectal prostate scan. He also diagnosed a varicocele (an enlargement of the veins within the loose bag of skin that holds the testicles). His uroflow test showed a very weak average urinary flow of 5.5 ml per second with lots of interruptions.
His mycolab sperm test results showed that Staphylococcus epimedium and E. coli were present at high levels. Vaggelis started two prostate massages per day in June 2020. These massages were painful at first due this his hemorrhoids and lasted throughout the months of June and July.
After two weeks of prostate massages Vaggelis stopped waking up to pee at night and his sperm quantity was raised. At the end of July 2020, he had his first intraprostatic injection. After a two month break to work and save funds Vaggelis came back to Athens in October 2020, he continued twice daily prostate massages until November 2020. Vaggelis then took a nine month break from the program to focus on his work and property rentals.
In September 2021 Vaggelis started twice daily prostate massages again for three weeks in preparation for his second intraprostatic injection. This second injection was done in October 2021. From October 2021 to December 2021 Vaggelis had one prostate massage per day.
He then stopped the treatment program for six months due to work and personal priorities and started eating in a less healthy manner. During his six months break from the program Vaggelis started eating traditional Crete style rice with butter, deserts with sweet bread and cheese, lots of local honey and occasional wine and cocktails. (These are exactly the types of food not recommended to be consumed by Chronic Prostatitis sufferers).
Vaggelis came back to the clinic in Athens in June 2022 for an examination and his prostate had grown 5ml larger due to his poor diet whilst off of the program
He started one prostate massage a day and became more stricter on the foods he consumed. A third intraprostatic injection is planned for 2023.
Overall Vaggelis currently feels much better than he did. He has better control of urination and has better erections. Psychologically he knows he is on a path to recovery and now feels hope.
This is vastly different to his peak of symptoms. At one point in 2020, Vaggelis was on a flight from Thessaloniki to Athens and he thought to himself, what if the plane crashes. His answer was he didn’t really care, because at that stage everything in his life felt so bad.
