Thomas

43 Years Old

Summary

Five years ago, Thomas was returning from a seaside trip and stopped off the main road to pee. He noticed when he urinated a painful and burning feeling. He thought it would be a temporary feeling, however when he returned home and urinated again, he felt the same pain again.

He also noticed that night when he went to bed that he had a temperature. With the temperature and urinary burning sensation Thomas decided to visit a hospital late at night. He wanted immediate treatment as he was worried with these symptoms.

He had a urine test done and after two hours the doctor diagnosed Prostatitis. He was given some antibiotics to take. After ten days of antibiotics, he was feeling fine and didn’t seek any further treatment.

Three years later Thomas had surgery on his knee. Whilst in hospital he had to urinate in a plastic bottle as he was confined to a wheelchair after the knee operation. Four to five days after the surgery on his knee Thomas noticed whilst at home that the burning feeling during urination started again.

He started the process of getting checked over again and went to his local doctor. The doctor requested he do a scan on his abdomen and organs. Everything was fine and perfectly normal according to the scans the doctor advised.

He then went to see a local urologist and his adventure officially started. The urologist gave Thomas some coloured plastic pieces to urinate on in order to test him for the presence of bacteria. The doctor said that if the colours changed on the test it indicated bacteria were present.

Following the test, the doctor said Thomas had bacteria and prescribed him some more antibiotics. After two weeks of these antibiotics some of Thomas’s symptoms went but they did not go completely.

Following these antibiotics Thomas started to notice a pain in his left testicle for the first time. After a week of this testicle pain Thomas mentioned this his doctor. His doctor alarmingly said “Maybe your testicles are banging together during sex causing this pain”.

After two more weeks Thomas noticed red spots in his sperm he had never seen before when he ejaculated. He was very worried about this and relayed this to his doctor when he called him on his mobile phone one Sunday. The situation was becoming more stressful for Thomas and he was starting to worry about what the problem was more and more.

The doctor prescribed yet more antibiotics, but given this doctor did not seem to be giving the right answers he tried another doctor.

He explained the situation to his new doctor, who explained Thomas needed to do a sperm and urine test. He did the sperm test and the result that came back was he had an E-Coli infection.

The doctor gave Thomas an additional pill, Arrenprost to take after a meal daily together with some daily antibiotics. The doctor said ‘that with this new pill and the antibiotics we will exterminate the bacteria’.

Thomas kept taking these antibiotics for five months, but he was still having symptoms, stress and pain.

During the Easter period of 2021 Thomas contracted Covid and noticed his sperm around this time was a strange heavy yellowy green colour. The doctor advised this was because of the recent Covid infection.

Thomas also visited another urologist around this time who scanned his prostate. The urologist said Thomas’s prostate was inflamed but was generally a good size. The prostate inflammation was nothing to worry about he was advised.

Thomas had started visiting the internet by now to do his own research and found Dr. Pavlos Georgiadis. He was quickly convinced this was the most serious doctor and called to arrange an appointment in September 2022. To Thomas’s surprise Pavlos answered the phone late at night when Thomas called the doctors clinic.

The doctor suggested he visit with a full bladder so he could perform a urine uroflow test. Pavlos also performed a prostate transrectal scan and prostate massage followed by a sperm test at a local microbiological laboratory.

The results showed Thomas had E-Coli and Enterococcus bacteria in his prostate. His prostate scan showed severe red inflammation. The doctor advised Thomas he had likely had Prostatitis for over ten years but was asymptomatic for much of this.

Treatment

Thomas has started daily prostate massages and is starting to improve already. His urinary burning is reducing and testicle pain is diminishing.
